She is not a pony that’s “dead” to the leg — quite the opposite. If you apply your leg, Hazel responds. If you soften, she listens. For children and riders starting to think about getting their own pony, Hazel gives them that important next step in experience. She isn’t a beginner horse and she does require riders to be controlled, accurate and thoughtful with their aids. Riders quickly learn that balance, timing and clear communication really matter with her — and that’s exactly why she’s such an incredible teacher.

Hazel is one of the most honest horses you will ride. She always tries her heart out and genuinely wants to do the right thing, but when she’s unsure, she looks to her rider for reassurance and confidence.
